The Five Animal Frolics were devised over 1700 years ago by the physician Hua T'o as a complete system of self-care. Based on movements of the Crane, Bear, Monkey, Deer, and Tiger, the exercises balance the five energies (Fire, Water, Earth, Wood, Metal) and nourish the corresponding organs. The Frolics are a fascinating, well-rounded routine for anyone looking to alleviate stress, cultivate energy, or lay a foundation for Taijiquan or meditation.

Paul Gallagher, Master Herbalist and founding faculty member of the New England School of Acupuncture, established the Deer Mountain Taoist Academy in 1975. He is one of the earliest, most influential western teachers of Taijiquan in America. The author of Drawing Silk: a training manual for T'ai Chi, Paul has offered seminars nationwide. He now teaches in Asheville NC.
